

Pagsanghan is home for delightful and sweet delicasies that are exported to different places here in the Philippines. People in Pagsanghan make use of the natural resources that we have here. Basically we use the sticky rice as a main ingredient in our delicious delicasies because we are abundant in rice plantation.
One of the famous and finest delicasies ever made by the Pagsanghananon is the “Kurukod” in waray term or “Suman” in Filipino term. It is a sticky rice and coconut milk mixture snack that is put into banana leaves. This snack is often sold especially in the morning in Pagsanghan because it also serves as a breakfast for it is considered as a heavy snack.
First,the sticky rice is soaked two to three times in the water and is put into a kaserole with enough tap water. Cook for 1 hour and drain. In a pot, combine coconut milk, sugar and salt. Stir until sugar and salt are dissolved. Add rice and stir to disperse. Then,Over medium heat, cook rice, stirring occasionally to prevent from sticking and burning, until liquid is absorbed but rice is half-done. Consequently, the cooked rice is folded in banana leaves and is steamed for over 1 hour. Preparing a sweet caramel sauce is optional. But here in Pagsanghan, we just eat it as is.
Ranging from P5.00-P10.00, you can sell your savoury “Kurukod”. But you can also share and have fun eating it with your family. The “Kurukod” or “Suman” is primarily served every special occasions like Christmas,New year’s celebration, birthdays and other special holidays. People in Pagsanghan takes pride of all the products that they produce especially the Kurukod. Making suman in Pagsanghan serves an income and helps the everyday living of Pagsanghananon. Although, producing this product is rare now a days, the process of making this product should be passed from generation to generation for the traditional and cultural triumph of Pagsanghan!
